Overview
Theyyam is one of Malabar's most treasured living traditions — an ancient sacred ritual in which the divine is believed to take form, kept alive across generations in the region's temples and sacred groves (kavus). On this experience, your local guide welcomes you into that world: visiting kavus and temples during the season, sharing the stories, folklore and meaning behind each ritual, and helping you feel the warmth and atmosphere of village North Malabar. The season runs from around October to May, with January to March the most active months. Each kavu follows its own temple calendar — see our Theyyam calendar in the Events section for upcoming dates, and we'll help you plan around them when you inquire.
