Overview
During the monsoon weeks of the Vaishakha Mahotsavam, the deep forest of Kottiyoor becomes one of Kerala's most extraordinary places of worship — an ancient ritual held in temporary leaf-thatched shrines beside the rushing Bavali river, with no permanent buildings. On this seasonal, fully customisable trail, guests wade barefoot across the Bavali to the sacred grove, walk the forest pathways in a clockwise pradakshina around the water-bound shrine, and witness grand evening processions of caparisoned elephants — alongside visits to the historic temples of Taliparamba and the Muthappan temple at Parassinikadavu. This is a living, orthodox pilgrimage; please read the access notes below, as traditional customs decide who may enter the sacred grove.

Visitor guidance
- Seasonal — runs during the Vaishakha season (around June–July); confirm timing when you inquire
- Women may cross to the grove only during a specific annual window (in 2026, around 30 May–20 June); outside it, female guests stay on the western bank
- Non-Hindu and international guests can experience the village, riverbanks and atmosphere
- Traditional dress is required
- You walk barefoot across the river and forest paths; expect monsoon rain and open-air worship
- Photography is not permitted inside the sacred enclosure — phones and cameras stay packed away
- Not included: food, stay, temple offerings, entry fees, separately-arranged transport
